Canada has requested the establishment of a World Trade Organization dispute settlement panel to consider two charges against U.S. farm programs: 1) that the U.S. has exceeded its annual limits on total agricultural support and 2) that the U.S. export credit guarantee program operates as an illegal export subsidy. Canada had initially included a third charge that U.S. corn subsidies caused harm to Canadian corn producers, but has since dropped that charge. If successful, the case could require changes to U.
