This document describes the synthesis of esterquats from palm fatty acids and triethanolamine, and evaluation of their performance as fabric softeners. Esterquats were synthesized via esterification followed by quaternization, and characterized using IR, HPLC and GC. The esterquats exhibited good softening and rewetting properties when tested on towel fabrics.
