About this document
Weld Cracking in Ammonia Converter Lines by Hsein Wang is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Cracking was experienced in welds in the gas outlet lines of an ammonia converter. Over several years, cracks were discovered in several welds connecting pipes and equipment. Samples taken from the cracks did not reveal any unusual characteristics. As the system approached 20 years of service, all welds were inspected using ultrasound techniques. Two welds were found to contain possible discontinuities and will be repaired. Lessons learned from this experience will be applied to future systems.
