What is Understanding Breathing Mechanics about?

When breathing in (inhaling), the diaphragm contracts and moves down, expanding the chest cavity. The ribs also move up, further increasing the chest cavity size and lowering the lung pressure, allowing air to be drawn in from the higher pressure outside. When breathing out (exhaling), the diaphragm and ribs relax and return to their original positions, decreasing the chest cavity size and raising lung pressure to push the air out to the lower pressure outside.
