This study examined the development of delayed matching-to-sample (DMTS) performance in pigeons over 300 sessions of exposure to a DMTS task with variable delays. Results showed that accuracy under shorter retention intervals developed quickly, but accuracy under longer intervals sometimes did not improve until 100-150 sessions had passed and was still increasing at session 300.
