In a revision of higher fungi occurring on marine algae, eight Ascomycetes and onc Deuteromyccte \vcre cxaminccL Two species are saprophytes or perthophytcs occurring on decaying or damaged algae, thrce specics arc parasitcs in ixd algac, and four live in lichenoid associations with epiphytic, microscopic algae on thc surfaccs of macroalgac. These loose fungal-algal relationships cannot be considered Uchens sensu stricto^ but probably primitive lichcnizations. Algal Partners in the symbioses are blue-green algae, crustaceous red algae and, of particubr interest, thc bm\vn alga, Ecfvcarpttsfasciculatus. New species, all from Norway, are Pharcidia laminaricola KOHLM. sp.
