An online survey of 362 past visitors to lodging businesses in Surfside Beach asked about their visits to local piers. 89.6% had visited a Myrtle Beach area pier, and 96.3% had been to Surfside Pier. The most common activities at piers were sightseeing (43.3%) and fishing (11.0%). Most respondents were families (78.7%) who had visited local piers at least 4 times (82.7%) and Surfside Pier at least 4 times (75.4%).
