About this document
HPT Axis: Thyroid Hormone Regulation by Edmari Joy Pojas Montil is a document available to read on EtoBox.
The hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis involves a negative feedback loop where the hypothalamus secretes thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) which stimulates the pituitary to secrete thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). TSH then signals the thyroid to produce thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) which provide negative feedback to the hypothalamus and pituitary to regulate further TRH and TSH secretion. Disruptions to this feedback loop can lead to hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.
