About this document
Bangladesh Garment Worker Riots 2009-2010 by Adiba Tasmeem is a document available to read on EtoBox.
The ready-made garments industry in Bangladesh has been an important source of foreign currency but has also been plagued by violent riots from garment workers. In 2009 and 2010, there were major riots in Ashulia and Tangi over issues like low pay and firing of workers. In 2010, another large riot broke out in response to the announced minimum wage of 3000 taka, which workers felt was too low. The riots involved attacks on factories and vehicles as well as clashes with police.
