## Phase Diagram of the Co-rich Portion of the Nd -Co Binary System The Co-rich portion Z 50.0 at.% Co) of the Nd -Co binary system has been re-investigated using DTA, optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction and EPMA techniques. A revised binary phase diagram for this portion is proposed which consists of six peritectic reactions, one congruently melting reaction and one eutectic reaction. Intermetallic compounds Nd>Co;, NdCo;,, NdCo;, Nd>;Co, NdsCojog and NdCo;z are formed through these six peritectic reactions. The Nd>Co, compound is formed by congruent melting. The eutectic reaction L Co 7 + -Co occurs at 1306 °C. The eutectic alloy contains 92.9 at.% Co. The solid solubility of Nd in cobalt is extremely small, being approximately 0.03 at.% at 1000 °C.
