This study investigates the impact of empty barrier holes on blast-induced seismic vibrations in open pit mining. Field experiments conducted at Seyitomer Coal Enterprise in Turkey revealed that empty barrier holes can reduce peak particle velocity (PPV) by 14-18% behind the barriers. The research demonstrates the potential effectiveness of using artificial discontinuities to mitigate environmental issues associated with blasting.
