Plants undergo cellular respiration to release energy from glucose in a step-wise process. While photosynthesis captures energy from sunlight, respiration releases this energy by oxidizing glucose and other fuels within plant cells. Glycolysis is the first step, partially oxidizing glucose to pyruvate without oxygen. This process allows plants to produce a small amount of energy even without oxygen. Aerobic respiration then fully oxidizes pyruvate with oxygen to produce much more energy, captured as ATP. Re
