What is Understanding Strike and Dip in Geology about?
Strike is the direction of a line formed by the intersection of a horizontal plane with an inclined geologic feature. Dip is the angle between the horizontal plane and the inclined feature, measured perpendicular to the strike. Dip direction indicates the direction a feature is tilted. For example, a rock layer striking N330oW and dipping 10o to the N10oE would be oriented with the longer strike line at N330oW and a shorter mark indicating the 10o dip towards N10oE on a geologic map.
