What is Leaf Gas Exchange and Transpiration about?

Transpiration is the loss of water vapor through plant leaves and stems. It occurs through stomata, which are pores that open and close to allow gas exchange needed for photosynthesis. Over 95% of water absorbed by the roots is lost through transpiration. Transpiration cools the leaves and creates a pull that moves water from the roots to the leaves through the xylem. Stomata usually close at night to conserve water.
