This thesis develops computational methods for designing and evaluating idiophone bars, such as those used in marimbas and vibraphones. It presents a methodology for concurrently tuning both flexural and torsional vibration modes of bars by creating 3D cutaway geometries. Finite element analysis is used to model bar behavior.
