What is Hagia Sophia: History and Interior Design about?
Hagia Sophia in Istanbul was originally built as an Eastern Orthodox cathedral in AD 537 under the reign of Justinian, serving in that capacity until 1453 when it was converted into an Ottoman mosque. It was then secularized and opened as a museum in 1935. The original interior featured abstract marble designs and mosaics of archangels, while figurative additions from the 9th century included images of Christ and saints, as well as biblical scenes.
