What is Managerial and Organizational Cognition about?
Incorporating the insights of the full range of the behavioral and social sciences, managerial and organizational cognition (MOC) is an interdisciplinary endeavor that seeks to advance fundamental and applied knowledge of how individuals and social units in human organizations acquire, store, recall, interpret, and act upon information. Originating during World War II, the study of cognition in the workplace has progressed from being a largely monodisciplinary application of experimental cognitive psychology, with a view to enhance practices targeted at helping individuals to overcome fundamental information processing limitations, to a much richer conception of people and their jobs. Situated at the nexus of the cognitive and organizational sciences, MOC is continuously evolving new theories, research, and tools to better explain and predict behavior in and around the workplace, thus improving the effectiveness and well-being of individuals and intra-and interorganizational collectives.
