What is Ashby de la Zouch Castle, Leicestershire about?

William the Conqueror granted the Manor of Ashby to one of his principal followers. Later it passed by marriage to the Zouch family. The earliest remains of the castle appear to belong to the middle of the twelfth century. These buildings were rebuilt and added to during the following two centuries. Edward IV granted Ashby to his Lord Chamberlain, Lord Hastings, who added the tower which bears his name.
