What is Adsorption of Phenol from Aqueous Solution on Activated Carbons Prepared from Antibiotic Mycelial Residues and Traditional Biomass about?

In this study, adhering to the concept of "treat waste with waste", the physicochemical properties of activated carbons (ACs) prepared from antibiotic mycelial residues (AMR) and traditional biomass (TDB) were comparatively analyzed, and the adsorption performance of ACs for phenol in aqueous solution was explored. The precursors and ACs were characterized by analysis methods including of thermogravimetric (TG), fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), surface area and pore size analyzer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), etc. The adsorption properties of ACs for phenol were analyzed by isothermal adsorption models and kinetic models. The TG and FT-IR results showed that AMR and TDB have similar physicochemical properties. CAC, CCAC, WAC and PAC showed similar percentage of micropore surface area (Smic) and micropore volume (Vmic), while PAC and TAC showed higher specific surface area (SBET), which were 1369.76 m2/g and 1336.43 m2/g, respectively. Particularly, PAC showed the best phenol adsorption capacity due to the superior SBET and Smic. The isothermal adsorption and adsorption kinetics of ACs for phenol indicated that the ad
