What is Growing Delta-crystals of Potassium-rubidium Biphthalate from Aqueous Solution about?
The crystals with a continuous change in lattice constants (delta-crystals) can be used in X-ray optics since they are able to change the divergence of X-ray beam. The samples of linear (one-dimensional) delta-crystals of potassium-rubidium biphthalate with the gradient of lattice constant b up to 1%/cm have been grown from low-temperature aqueous solutions. X-ray diffraction study proved that quality of the crystals is high enough to provide the uniform reflectivity along the crystal surface and to allow the crystals to serve as a mirror for the diverging beam. After the required bending the crystals can be used as collecting and amplifying monochromators.
