This document describes a study where a recombinant adenovirus carrying the herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (HSV-tk) gene was used to treat brain tumors in nude mice. C6 glioma cells were efficiently transduced in vitro by the adenovirus and rendered sensitive to ganciclovir. Tumors were generated in nude mice brains by injecting C6 cells. The adenovirus was then injected into the tumors and mice were treated with ganciclovir, resulting in significantly reduced tumor sizes compared to controls.
