What is Impossibility of Thermalization of Electrons Within an Atomic Collision Cascade Influencing Secondary Ion Emission of Metals about?
It is shown that conduction electrons excited within the atomic collision cascade by low-energy bombarding ions present an isolated subsystem. They do not interact between themselves and with other electrons. Therefore, the thermalization of such electrons and, consequently, the possibility of the use of basic quantitative characteristics of the usual degenerated Fermi system turns out to be impossible. The correct equation for the specific heat suitable for the given case is proposed. It is shown that the secondary ion emission cannot be caused by the thermalization resulting from the electron localization and the influence of Auger electrons within a cascade. It is shown that an increase of the electronic temperature within a cascade to the values of order several thousands K is impossible. Therefore, in general, the thermodynamical description of secondary ion emission is also impossible.
