What is Kim, M. and Kim, Y., 2010, Hypocholesterolemic Effects of Curcumin Via Upregulation of Cholesterol 7a-Hydroxylase in Rats Fed A High Fat Diet, Nutrition Research and Practice, 4 (3), 191-195 about?
This study investigated the effects of curcumin supplementation on cholesterol levels in rats fed a high fat diet. Rats were given either a normal diet, high fat diet, or high fat diet with curcumin added. Results showed rats given curcumin with their high fat diet had significantly lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels compared to those just on a high fat diet, due to curcumin upregulating the cholesterol 7a-hydroxylase enzyme which helps clear cholesterol from the body.
