Celtic Origins of Halloween Traditions by Yaiza Almengló Ortega is a document available to read on EtoBox.
The Celtic Roots of Halloween The ancient Celts celebrated the new year on November 1st, believing the souls of the dead were active at this time. To protect themselves from evil spirits, Celts would dress in scary costumes made from animal parts and plant materials. The tradition of carving pumpkins for lanterns also originated from this Celtic festival. Over time, these customs were incorporated into the Christian holidays of All Saints
