What is Magellan about?

Ferdinand Magellan led the first voyage to circumnavigate the globe from 1519 to 1522. The expedition consisted of five ships and over 250 men who set sail from Spain with the goal of finding a western route to the Spice Islands. Though Magellan did not survive to complete the entire journey, his fleet became the first to sail from the Atlantic Ocean into the Pacific and back, proving that Earth is round and opening the Pacific Ocean to European trade and colonization.
