What is Lion Species Overview and Conservation about?

The lion is the second largest cat species, native to Africa and Asia. Males can weigh over 550 pounds. Lions live in prides led by females and include a few males. They predominantly prey on large herbivores. Though once widespread, lion populations have declined by 30-50% in the last two decades in Africa due to habitat loss and conflicts with humans. They are currently classified as a vulnerable species.
