Biodegradability of Crude Oil 19 Years Post-Spill by Heather M. Handley Goldstone is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Lingering crude oil from the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill continued to pose a threat to wildlife in Prince William Sound 19 years later. Samples of oil-contaminated beach sediments were collected and tested in laboratory microcosms to determine the biodegradability of the weathered oil. The results showed that the lingering oil was biodegradable, with nutrient addition stimulating biodegradation compared to natural attenuation in all samples, regardless of the degree of weathering.
