This document describes a novel extractive liquid-surface immobilization (Ext-LSI) system for cultivating fungi at liquid interfaces and screening for antibiotic production. The Ext-LSI system consists of a hydrophobic organic solvent layer, a fungal cell and microsphere mat layer, and an aqueous liquid medium layer.
