What is Aptamer-functionalized Quantum Dots for Targeted Cancer Therapy about?
Cancer is one of the deadliest diseases worldwide. Among several cancer treatments, chemotherapy is an effective cancer treatment. Its efficiency is often limited by the negative effects of cytotoxic agents used in most therapeutic methods and the drugs cannot distinguish between healthy and cancerous cells. The active targeting of drugs is a powerful technology in medicine to treat cancers. Aptamer is a small oligonucleotide with the ability to bind to specific targets similar to antibodies, has various benefits. Quantum dots (QDs) are imaging probes with the ability of broad absorption with a narrow emission spectrum, high quantum yields, low photobleaching, and chemical stability. Herein, aptamer-conjugated QDs for targeted cancer therapy have been studied and reviewed.
