The study compares the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) using the 2009 and 2021 CKD-EPI equations in a Black African population to assess the impact of excluding race correction. Results indicate that the 2021 equation yields similar eGFR values to the non-race-corrected 2009 equation, but leads to a significant reclassification of chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages. The findings suggest that adopting the 2021 equation could improve equity in kidney disease screening in Kenya.
