Introduction: Chronic non-malignant pain presents a significant burden to affected individuals by increasing disability, psychological stress, and social handicap. The aim of this prospective cohort study is to evaluate the burden of chronic pain by measuring pain intensity, quality of life, disability, and psychological distress in these patients. Methods: All patients with nonmalignant chronic pain between 2005 and 2007 completed questionnaires concerning demographic data, psychoneuroticism (SCL90), pain diagnosis and intensity, quality of life (SF36) and disability (PDI). Results: Data (n = 969) from the cohort are presented.
