This document describes the design of an A-weighted sound level meter using Matlab. It uses the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to estimate the frequency spectrum of sampled audio. The FFT length is chosen as a power of two to enable real-time processing. A closed-form expression for the A-weighting filter is applied to the frequency bins to model human hearing. The implementation allows real-time acquisition and displays the weighted sound level and frequency spectrum.
