About this document

Thanksgiving Day: History and Traditions by Roxana Buga is a document available to read on EtoBox.

The first Thanksgiving took place in 1621 when the Pilgrims celebrated the autumn harvest with the Wampanoag people who had helped them survive their first year. In 1863, President Lincoln established Thanksgiving as a national holiday to be celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Today, Thanksgiving is a time for families to gather for a meal of turkey, sweet potatoes, cornbread and cranberry sauce. Modern traditions include the presidential turkey pardon and Black Friday shopping.
