Transradial approach (TRA) has emerged as the preferred vascular access for coronary angiography and intervention. Randomized controlled trials have demonstrated decreased rates of bleeding and vascular complications, and a mortality benefit associated with TRA in a wide range of patients with coronary artery disease. Accordingly, a "radial first" strategy is currently recommended by European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and an American Heart Association (AHA) Scientific Statement [2] as the default vascular access site for percutaneous cardiovascular catheterization. TRA adoption has progressively increased over time worldwide. However, in up to 10 % of patients, technical difficulties related to radial intervention can preclude its utilization, requiring crossover to alternative access .
