Can I read Stereoselective Synthesis of 6β-Substituted Penicillanates on EtoBox?

Stereoselective Synthesis of 6β-Substituted Penicillanates by Jules A. Aimetti; Ernest S. Hamanaka; David A. Johnson; Michael S. Kellogg is a Chemistry article available to read on EtoBox.

What is Stereoselective Synthesis of 6β-Substituted Penicillanates about?

Reduction of 6-substituted-6-halopenicillanates with tri-n-butyltin hydride can produce stereoselectively 6H-substituted derivatives. Interest in the preparation of H-lactam antibiotics has been stimulated by the discovery of novel substances which maintain very interesting enzyme inhibitory properties in spite of the conspicuous absence of a 6H-amide side chain. (1) During an investigation of the biological properties of penicillanate congeners, we were confronted by the problem of stereoselective production of 6H-and 6a-substituted analogs. We, as well as others, have recently developed procedures which allow regio -and stereoselective aldolization at C-6 of the penicillin nucleus. (2)
