About this document

Understanding Neurotransmitters and Addiction by WenJun Leow is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Neurotransmitters are chemicals released by nerve cells that allow signals to pass from one nerve cell to another. There are around 50 known neurotransmitters that can excite or inhibit neurons. Examples include acetylcholine, norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin, and GABA. Neurotransmitters are stored in vesicles and released into the synaptic cleft when an action potential reaches the presynaptic membrane. They then bind to receptors on the postsynaptic membrane, continuing the nerve impulse. Dysfunctions
