What is Martial Law Victims Claim Compensation about?

Martial law victims have started claiming compensation from funds set aside for victims and their families. Over 11,000 claims were approved out of 75,730 filed with the Human Rights Victims Claims Board. Victims have received ordered payments ranging from $3,400 for illegal arrest to $34,000 for family members who were killed, as set out in the 2013 Human Rights Victims Reparation and Recognition Act which mandates reparations be paid from the $200 million Marcos funds returned by Swiss banks.
