This paper reviews the economic competitiveness of fuel cell electric buses (FCEBs) compared to conventional buses using total cost of ownership (TCO) methodology. The findings indicate that FCEBs are currently not cost competitive, but decreasing acquisition and fuel costs suggest future potential. The study highlights uncertainties in existing TCO literature and suggests improvements such as better geographic coverage and the use of real-world data.
