PRAN wished to venture into the dairy industry in Bangladesh because ultra-high temperature (UHT) milk was a relatively new concept there and the brands available were exclusively imported and expensive. PRAN saw an opportunity to produce domestic UHT milk at a fraction of the imported price and capture market share in the growing processed milk segment.
