Wilhelm Conrad Röentgen discovered x-rays in 1895. He was a German physicist who conducted research on Crookes tubes, a vacuum tube that can make its own X-radiation. Röentgen discovered the x-ray or x-radiation while experimenting with cathode ray tubes. He noticed that a plate covered with fluorescent material glowed when near a tube undergoing electrical discharge, even when the tube was covered by black cardboard.
