What is Valdez Case: Appeal and Downgrading about?

P02 Eduardo Valdez and his brother Edwin Valdez were convicted of three counts of murder by the regional trial court and court of appeals. Eduardo appealed to the Supreme Court, while Edwin withdrew his appeal. The Supreme Court found Eduardo guilty of three counts of homicide instead of murder. Edwin then requested the same lighter penalty be applied to him. The Supreme Court ruled that Edwin could benefit from the lighter penalty despite withdrawing his appeal, as the appellate court
