What is Insulin about?
Insulin is secreted by the body in response to increased blood glucose levels and has a short half-life of 6 minutes, allowing for rapid changes in circulating levels. It works to lower blood glucose by increasing glucose uptake in adipose tissue and muscles through GLUT-4 receptors and decreasing gluconeogenesis and blood amino acid and potassium levels through various mechanisms. Not all cells require insulin to transport glucose via GLUT-4 transporters.
