What is Cyclooxygenase Pathway Overview about?
The cyclooxygenase pathway converts arachidonic acid into prostaglandins and thromboxanes. Arachidonic acid is released from cell membranes by phospholipase A2 and converted to prostaglandin H2 by cyclooxygenase. Prostaglandin H2 is then converted by tissue-specific synthases into prostacyclin (PGI2), prostaglandin D2, E2, F2α, or thromboxane A2.
