What is Leaf and Stem Rust Resistance of Hexaploid Wheat Cultivars Salzmünder Bartweizen and Weique about?
Wheat cultiva s Salzmunde Ba tweizen and Wei ue gave a simila patte n of eaction type when tested with 27 diffe ent aces of stem ust and 17 aces of leaf ust f om Canada and Czechoslovakia . Both cultiva s we e esistant to all aces of stem ust and most of the aces of leaf ust . Genetic studies indicated that the two va ieties have the same genes fo ust esistance, with the genes fo leaf and stem ust being closely linked . T ansmission of the genes fo ust esistance was i egula and appea ed to be associated with meiotic i egula ities in ch omosome pai ing . In all F2 populations which deviated significantly f om a 3 :1 atio, a deficiency of esistant plants was noted . The g eatest deficiency was in the F2 of c osses involving Salzmunde Ba tweizen, of which the F 1 hyb id also had the g eatest meiotic i egula ities . Chime al plants, of which the longitudinal half of the leaf showed a esistant eaction and the othe half a susceptible eaction, we e obse ved in c osses with Salzmunde Ba tweizen .
