What is The Mass of Our Sacrifice about?
The Mass of Our Sacrifice has been described as “a Book of Prayers and Catholic Teaching written by a priest of the Community of the Resurrection (CR) in South Africa and illustrated by Joan Viner.”In the Foreword, the late Father Trevor Huddleston, C.R., who was the Provincial of the Community of the Resurrection in South Africa says the following “Because the Mass is the very heart and center of all Catholic worship, nothing is more important than a full understanding of it. Throughout the Church today it is recognized that the way to this understanding lies in ‘praying the Mass’- Sharing, that is, in the infinite riches of its prayer: realizing the meaning and purpose of its actions: taking part with the priest in the offering or that unique and perfect Sacrifice. The object of this book is to make these things possible by providing a devotional guide which all can follow easily.”The Mass of Our Sacrifice was used within the Church of the Province of South Africa (now known as the Anglican Church of Southern Africa) and was a popular gift for candidates for ordination at the time. It was first published in July 1951.
