What is The English spirit : the Little Gidding anthology of English spirituality about?

This anthology features excerpts from the works of many of England's most famous theologians, poets, and novelists. Carefully compiled from both public and private collections, The English Spirit provides both an important new resource for private devotions and a history of English spirituality from Anglo-Saxon times to the present day. The English Spirit offers excerpts from Sir Thomas Moore, C.S. Lewis, T.S. Eliot, John Bunyon, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, John Donne, the Wesleys, Leslie Weatherhead, Virginia Woolf, W.H. Auden, and many others. Too often the spiritual gems of these popular writers are hidden away in obscure settings. The English Spirit is designed to reclaim these treasures for a wider audience, and to help put modern Christians back in touch with their lost spiritual roots. Little Gidding is a lay Christian community founded by Nicholas Ferrar in the seventeenth century and perceived by many to be at the heart of England's spiritual heritage. Thanks to the dedication of the Friends of Little Gidding, of which T.S. Eliot was a founding member, the community has been reestablished and is thriving once more.
