What is History of British Togoland Formation about?

British Togoland was a territory in West Africa administered by the United Kingdom from 1916 to 1956. It was formed by splitting the German protectorate of Togoland after World War I. In 1956, a plebiscite was held and the residents voted to merge with the neighboring British colony of the Gold Coast, which became independent as Ghana the following year. British Togoland thus became part of the new nation of Ghana and is now known as the Volta Region.
