What is Fineness Test of Cement by Sieve Analysis about?
This experiment tests the fineness of cement through sieve analysis. Fineness is important because it affects the rate of hydration and strength gain of concrete. A 100g cement sample is shaken through a #200 or #300 sieve for 10-15 minutes. The weight of residue left in the sieve is measured. If the residue is less than 10g or the percentage of fineness is over 90%, then the cement is considered fresh and suitable for construction.
