Victor Carlos spent nearly a month on an ECMO machine at University of Colorado Hospital after developing acute respiratory distress syndrome from the flu. Although he survived, he struggled physically upon returning home and had to slowly build up his endurance through walking and gradual running. Through determination and support from his family and doctors, Carlos was eventually able to complete long distance runs again, including recent 20-mile and 23-mile races as he trains for an upcoming marathon.
