A collection of bats recently made in Brazil by one of us (J.H. M.H.) included three specimens of the rather rare, small Phyllostomatid bat Ectophylla (Mesophylla) macconnelli Thomas, 1901. This remarkable little bat, described by Thomas (1901) from British Guiana, has since been recorded from Ecuador (Thomas, 1909 ;Laurie, 1955), British Guiana (Anthony, 1921), Brazil (Lima, 1920 ;Vieira, 1942), and Peru (Sanborn, 1951). Goodwin and Greenhall (1962Greenhall ( , 1964) ) described a new subspecies from Trinidad and proposed that Mesophylla should be regarded as a subgenus of Ectophylla. While studying the present material, which consists of three adult specimens of E.
